Melissa Benoist Reacts To Supergirl Ending With Season 6

Totally gutted about this!

Supergirl star Melissa Benoist has reacted to the news that the CW show’s season 6 will be its last, saying she’s been humbled by the experience. Benoist debuted as Danvers in 2015, when the show first aired on CBS. She remained the lead through the show’s move over to The CW and took a significant role in the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline during the ambitious Arrowverse crossover. The show has been popular among Arrowverse fans, and as a result, the news of the cancellation is something of a surprise.

Benoist has also had a fairly extensive career outside of Supergirl, first making a name for herself as Marley Rose in Glee and starring in Whiplash and Patriots Day. Ironically, Benoist almost missed out on playing Supergirl by earlier auditioning for the part of Thea Queen on Arrow. However, the audition wasn’t successful, and she ended up claiming the titular role in the Arrowverse’s third show after Arrow and The Flash. Benoist’s portrayal of Danvers/Supergirl has been hailed for its combination of tenderness and fierce determination, with many holding her up as a role model for young girls.

Why Supergirl Season 6’s Delay Is Longer Than Other Arrowverse Shows

All of The CW’s superhero exhibits have been delayed till 2021, however Supergirl season 6 is being pushed again till Summer time 2021 for one essential motive.

Superhero followers should wait slightly longer for Supergirl Season 6 than they may the remainder of the Arrowverse exhibits. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the leisure trade, shutting down manufacturing on quite a few tv packages and movie units. All of those sequence had their last episodes rewritten and re-edited from the finished footage, leading to some drastically totally different endings and main cliffhangers.

The CW determined to delay manufacturing on all of their sequence via the top of the yr, however nonetheless plans to do full season orders for the entire Arrowverse exhibits. Supergirl Star Teases What’s Next For Kara And William’s “Slow Burn” Romance

Supergirl season 5 spent a bit of its time slowly building up a romance between Kara and William, culminating in him putting himself in mortal peril to try and save her in the finale.

It’s been quite low-key, which is something that star Melissa Benoist is really happy about. Looking forward, she hopes that season 6 of the superhero show doesn’t try to ramp it up too quickly. When your character is faster than a speeding bullet, you want to take your time with some things.

Speaking to the folks at TVLine, Benoist said: “What’s exciting for Kara is the amount of possibilities. She’s had quite a bit of time to herself without any love interests, so I think it’s great that there was a possibility at all in season 5.

“I would anticipate it even going into season 6, with complications arising, but I’m glad people are curious. What’s really fun on TV is watching slow burns with romance, so I think people can expect that.”

As well as more episodes of Supergirl, the show also has a spin-off on the horizon called Superman & Lois, focusing on Tyler Hoechlin’s version of the Man of Steel and Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane.
